Earlier this summer, I had the wonderful opportunity to travel to Tuscany for my friends' STUNNINGLY beautiful wedding. I completed a few watercolor postcards, ate amazing food, took a glass bead making class, and made friends while I was exploring all of the amazing things Italy had to offer.

We couldn't have asked for better weather at the Lititz Plein Air event. I had the joy of painting in the shade of a large tree. It was a lovely Friday event and I had the luxury of receiving a visit from a friend. I love when I get to enjoy time with my peeps!

There are so many wonderful locations to choose from but I decided to stay at the Moravian Church. I was taken by the light on the steeple. It was also nice because I had a constant reminder of how much time I had left 😂 An extra benefit was to see an actual bell tolling - most local churches and clock towers nearby have switched out to speaker systems. The Moravian Church has been in Lititz since the mid 1700s and does an excellent job preserving its history.

I learned a lot on this Monday night painting get-

I learned a lot on this Monday night painting get-together such as: know when to quit and always have bug spray on hand.

The weather was more like summer than spring today - the first true hot day of the season. I have been spoiled by the cooler spring days and had forgotten that there are also other living things that enjoy warm weather.... like mosquitoes. They DEVOURED me both on exposed skin and through my shirt. When one bit me right on the thumb I was done. I packed everything away as I started swelling up. Bugs 1, me 0 *shakes fist at the sky* I'll be prepared next time with every bug deterrent available 🦟 😤

Part of me is sad I didn't get the opportunity to add ink to this painting but I'm also happy with the outcome and what it taught me. Of course I could always come back another time and continue working on it but I think I'm good with the number of mosquito bite welts that I earned.

The Monday night painting group was back at it again. Anyone local will recognize this fountain at Lititz Springs Park. My only regret is that I didn't include any ducks 🦆

My brain is still struggling to work in the opposite direction with watercolor - with acrylics, you can keep adding on and wait to add small details (like the local mallards who are a staple at the park) until the end. I'm finding that watercolor needs to be much more intentional and planned (at least in comparison to the chaotic way in which I am used to working).

My entry for the 2024 River Town Plein Air quick draw event. I am finding a love for alleyways but am still building the necessary skills to capture the unique chaos they possess.

I worked bigger than I normally do (especially for a quick draw) which was not the best idea in hindsight - the wind was WICKED. I'd go to add a detail and a gust would blow the canvas into my brush and what was supposed to be a line became a blob 😂

Now for something a bit different… this is my re

Now for something a bit different... this is my rendition of Sister Friede - a (notoriously difficult) boss in Dark Souls III. It was made for @zenkaikon and the character was recognized by quite a few people. I haven't crafted a costume in quite a few years but I'm quite pleased with the outcome. A majority of it was made from thrifted materials. I'm most proud of the scythe which is just shy of 6 feet tall and made out of cardboard and a shower curtain extension rod. I have a few thoughts on how to improve this for iteration two and look forward to making it even better.

I struggled with this piece but I told myself to build a bridge and get over it 😜 It ended up being a multi-session painting instead of all in one go. I learned a lot from it and am pleased with the result.
